Students’ Perception of Secondary School Teachers’ Assessment with Specific Reference to the Subject of English

Using research investigating the effect of teacher assessment practices in secondary schooling Croatia on student perceptions fairness, this paper1 points out participating students’ perception fairness assessment, focusing three school subjects, but particularly subject English. The overall included enquiry into subjects. implemented was both a quantitative and qualitative nature. design intended to be empirical, measuring perception, quasi-ethnographic, seeking interpret these through understanding context. Student questionnaires, involving total 330 students, interviews, 12 teachers, analysis teachers’ documents were used collect data that then analysed within case studies. Each study, totalling six number, represented with two classes students studying one chosen Classes from high schools subjects Biology, Croatian or English as foreign language formed sample groups. These asked complete questionnaire based Likert response type items founded Perception Assessment Questionnaire (SPAQ) open-ended questions developed at Centre for Schooling Learning Technologies (CSaLT). SPAQ measured by five scales. teachers interviewed also provided illustrate how they assessed investigation uncovered variations responses differences between same which are possibly indicative, among other elements, role personality factors. This revealed researched, achieved most positive rating involved research.
